Poppies L'élu Pinot Noir 2022

L'élu, translating to "the chosen one" in French,
embodies a timeless respect for tradition.

By marrying the precision of vineyard craftsmanship with the unique character of low-yield crops, and aging in a singular French 'Boutes' barrel with a hint of new oak, we have crafted something truly extraordinary.

Traditionally, such a wine would be blended away, but its remarkable character was deemed far too exceptional to be combined with others.

We've made the dream of creating an iconic, harmonious wine a reality,
with every drop reflecting our integrity and dedication as winemakers.

For 25 years in Martinborough, this is the standard of excellence we relentlessly pursue. Now, we’ve discovered our Grand Cru vineyard, unparalleled in its essence. The love and passion poured into this creation is evident in every bottle, a perfect blend of creativity and magic.

"Totally seductive, exhibiting grace and power, as well as outstanding fruit purity and alluring complexity; the bouquet shows sweet cherry, rich floral, porcini, almond and warm spice aromas. The palate displays immense concentration and weight, while remaining refined and flowing, offering multi-layered mouthfeel with seamlessly melded tannins. It’s expansive and substantial yet with finesse and balance, leading to a sustained, sophisticated finish. At its best: 2027 to 2042."

"Brilliant deep ruby in colour, the rim showing a hint of terracotta. Intense floral scents rose, violets plus an underlying earthiness, akin to rich compost. In the mouth there is an immediate engagement with fruit of real depth and beauty. Red and dark berry, dark cherry and grenadine notes unfold - and keep unfolding. This is a wine whose dimensions grow remarkably with time in the glass. The texture is svelte and even through the mid-palate, the tannins show a little graininess at the finish. Classic Martinborough - depth, power and beauty all in one."
